INFLUENZA VACCINE INJECTIONS IN EGG - ALLERGIC PATIENTS 2011-2012
|
|
There is a trivial amount, or no, egg protein in influenza vaccines. Research in the past two years has shown that patients with egg allergy can safely receive the vaccines without prior testing. In the vast majority of cases, the full dose can be given at one time, just like to people without egg allergy. In a very few patients who have had the most serious previous reactions to ingested egg (anaphylaxis), the doctor may choose to administer the vaccine in two separate doses at the same visit (10%, then 90%). All egg-allergic patients should be observed in the office at least 30 minutes after the injection.
